When you wake up in the morning, do you feel like today will be a ditto of yesterday? Has your life become so repetitive that your excitement and zeal have been replaced with dread and anxiety? What is stopping you from living the life you want? This week we will talk about some things that might be hindering you and begin to get you back on track to making the progress in your life that you crave!
Beware of Past Influences:
We all have been influenced by our past. I know in my life, my parents were more conservative and were certainly not big risk takers. Consequently, I learned to be cautious and careful. If there was a risk of failure or that I may lose something, I would select a more conservative and stable path. As a result, I closed off many of life’s opportunities to avoid taking risks or failing. What I eventually learned was that I am the exact opposite of my parents. I am a huge risk taker! When I began to own who I was and got rid of the influence of my past, my life began to take off.
Dare to be Different
When I began to realize the stifling impact others had over me, I became more aware of the opportunities that were around me. Instead of living life with conservative blinders, I looked at life as a treasure hunt. Against the advice of my family, I finally walked straight to the edge of nest and jumped. I was a risk taker and my wings were itching to take flight.
At 23 years of age, I sold almost everything I owned. I packed up what was left into 5 small boxes and bought a one way ticket to Laguardia Airport. I had no idea where I was going to end up or what I was going to do. I had a few friends I could temporally live with in the city and $2,000 to my name. As many of you know this was going to last me about a week living in New York City (NYC).
Grow your OWN Wings
Ultimately, I lived in NYC for 8 years and never looked back. Was it easy? Absolutely not and I struggled a lot. But I learned a very important lesson that I have chosen to live by: I would rather be sorry for something I did, than live with the regret of never having tried.
Every time you feel trapped in the mundane, it is time to explore and find a new opportunity or another challenge. Mind you, it doesn’t have to be a huge challenge like climbing Mount Everest! Whatever the challenge you take, I implore you to keep stretching toward that bigger vision you have for your life. You will find the more you tip toe to the edge of the nest, the more you will develop the confidence to grow and exercise the wings you were born to fly with!
