How Important is Building a Good Support System?

# self care May 30, 2022

One of the most important components of good mental health and living longer and happier lives is having quality relationships. As a parent of a child with special needs, I have struggled with this and have often felt unsupported and alone. That is why Pathways is beginning the “Women Empowering Women” support system. It is a place where women, who are moms and/or guardians, can join hands and hearts and begin to help each other take this journey together.

The Need for Better Support Systems

Being a mom of a child with special needs is downright draining. Add to that, a feeling that your child is not making the progress needed and you begin to feel that you are never good enough or doing enough. Who do you have in your life who can not only relate to these feelings, but help you to move beyond them? It is critical that you have strong and consistent support systems that can give you more confidence and competency to keep you on the road to becoming your best self!

Do You Have a Mentor?

One of the things you will need most is a caring network of friends who are not there to condemn but understand you with greater empathy. We need people who have been there and done that. It is a gift to have mentors in your life who can help you find solutions and set you in the right direction faster and with fewer mistakes. There is nothing worse than feeling you are in the middle of ocean without a sail or a rudder.  Hopelessness is the worst feeling and “Women Empowering Women” is designed to give you that hope and direction.

A Village Can Change The World

Although you may feel powerless, you are far stronger than you ever realized.  Think about it. Put almost anybody in your shoes for less than an hour and they would be begging for relief. We are women who understand the true meaning of unconditional love and have an unending reservoir of grit and resilience. It is now time to harness that strength in ways that can collectively move all of us forward in a positive and more empowered way. What we lack most in the disability community it a cohesive leadership that can move our cause forward.  It is time to compound that individual strength into a collective leadership that can have real influence. There is no doubt that it takes a village, and together, we can begin to change not only our own worlds but the world around us.

Join us on June 8, 2022 from 7:30-8:30pm for “Women Empowering Women.” We have invited Sabrina Klele who is a mother of four children, realtor, and yoga instructor to speak about her how she juggles it all and still finds time to realize her own dreams!  Click to Register Now!
